About Us
Transition Darebin is part of the worldwide Transition Network which sees the need to adapt to diminishing resources and a rapidly changing global climate.
Transition Darebin works towards cultivating a relocalised and resilient Darebin for current and future generations.
This group is about helping the Darebin community learn ways to sustain itself by pursuing practical solutions like local food growing, energy efficient homes and buildings, fossil-fuel-free transport, local production of goods and services, and reuse and recycling. It has a strong social justice focus.
It utilises the considerable skills of its members to undertake projects around food, transport, and re-skilling. It supports small working parties that pursue specific initiatives. It networks with other community groups, and partners with different organisations to develop projects. Above all, it welcomes new members who will bring fresh thinking, energy and practical ideas – that is, contributions to the task of developing local and viable responses to addressing our problems.
Our vision
A relocalised and resilient Darebin that is liveable for current and future generations.
Our mission
To catalyse our community’s response to peak oil and climate change – a transition towards a relocalised and resilient Darebin.
Essentially we are about helping the Darebin community to prepare for peak oil and climate change through practical solutions like local food growing, energy efficient homes and buildings, fossil-fuel-free transport, local production of goods and services, and reuse and recycling. We have some projects underway around food, transport, and re-skilling Darebin for a future without cheap energy and fuel.
On Friday 9th October 2009, Transition Darebin became incorporated at a public launch and accepted our constitution.

Our members
Transition Darebin is a collective of volunteers and supporters who (mostly) live in Darebin. A small number of us started things rolling (the ‘Initiating Group’); the rest keep it going through various levels of involvement. If you live, work, or have a close connection with Darebin, consider getting involved!
