Repair Cafe #6
Our 6th Darebin Repair Cafe is coming up on Sunday 17th March from 10am to 1pm. at 2-4 Wright St. Reservoir. There is street parking and Reservoir Train Station is 1 km away.
A Repair Cafe is a place where a volunteer fixer will help you repair your broken items. It is not meant to replace tradespeople or perform complex repairs or alterations to clothes. However, it is sometimes the avenue of last resort before landfill.
To attend you must book in via Eventbrite to have an item repaired. Expect to have one item looked at so everyone gets a fair go. It might be possible to have more but you will go back into the queue.
At this cafe repairs can be made on: items needing glueing, small machines, toys, clothes tho not alterations, electrical & electronics.
Fixers yet to be confirmed: hand sewing broken leather bag straps, jewellery, and a sewing machine/overlocker whizz.
Please email us a photo of your repair with description of what needs fixing so we check with fixers if it is doable and whether you’ll need to buy parts beforehand.
We’d love some help with organising/supporting the event and are always on the lookout for more fixers – please get in touch at transitiondarebin@gmail.com.
Bring a keep cup and a few coins for the refreshment station.
Darebin Repair Cafe is part of the International Repair Cafe Foundation and is kindly supported by the City of Darebin.
Food Swaps – Preston/Thornbury
The next food swap will be on Saturday March 23, from 11 to 12 pm. It can be found at the corner of High St and Pender St, Thornbury.
Food Swaps are an occasion to meet your community, talk about gardens and sustainability and swap excess produce from your garden, or something you made in your kitchen. You bring some and get to take some away as with all good swaps.
Ideas of what to bring:
- seeds from your garden
- seedlings
- fruit
- vegetables
- herbs
- preserves
- cordials
- sour dough starter
The list goes on…
Darebin Community & Kite Festival
Transition Darebin will be having a stall at the Darebin Community & Kite Festival this year. It’ll be on Sunday March 24, from 11 am to 4 pm, at Edwardes Lake Park. It’s a fantastic day out, and we’ll be spreading the word about what we do – send us an email at transitiondarebin@gmail.com if you’d like to help out on the day, or just come down and say hello.
