Transition in the Pub – Plastic Free July

Have you tasted the best mulled wine in Darebin? This is your big chance. The Merri Clan will be the gathering place for a Transition Darebin midwinter get together. It is Plastic Free July, so feel free to share some of your successes and struggles, or simply come along for a social chat.

We will be out the back in the large room (through the entrance and pub area, past the courtyard, to the gathering space). Don’t forget to buy some mulled wine on the way through (if you feel so inclined).

We look forward to seeing you there. Please note that we do collect gold coin donations on the night, to help these events run in the future.

Address: 15 Gilbert Rd, Preston (just round the corner from Miller St and on the No.11 West Preston tram line)
Date: Wednesday 18 July 2018.
Time: 7.30pm

Free entry, and this venue serves vegan food.

Food Swaps

Reservoir

The next food swap will be on Saturday July 21, from 10 to 11 am.  It can be found at the pop up park on corner of Broadway  and Cheddar Rd. Reservoir.

Fairfield

The next Fairfield food swap will be on Saturday July 21, from 11 to 12 noon.  It can be found at the corner of Gillies and Duncan Streets, Fairfield. It will be in the side garden facing Duncan St.

Repair Cafe

Please put Sunday 22nd July 2018 from 10am to 1pm for our second Darebin Repair Cafe in your calendar/diary/phone.

It will be at Clyde Hall, 64 Clyde St. Thornbury (next to Span Community Centre). Please be aware that there will be no access to Span Community Centre on the day.

Repairs will be made to: bicycles, jewellery, toys, general repairs, shoes, objects that need glueing, visible mending, sewing repairs, small machines.  We aim to offer 3 time slots at 10-11, 11-12, 12-1.  To repair an item, you must book through here.  After booking please email us at transitiondarebin@gmail.com a photo and description of what needs fixing to so we can let the fixers know.  Quick bicycle diagnosis can be done on the day without booking.

This venue is much smaller than the previous one so there are fewer repairers available. Tagging and testing will not happen and much less electrical repairs as there will not be an electrician available.

As the council is not involved this time we are looking for reliable volunteers to help with banner making, setting up, packing up, ushering, tea/coffee sales, baking, administrative tasks such as registration, weighing, photography, handing out and collection of waiver forms etc. Email transitiondarebin@gmail.com if you can assist.

If you are bringing a bicycle you may have to pay for parts (brakes, gears, chain, lube) or buy them and come to the next cafe. If you know what needs doing you can bring the parts, oil or lube with you.

Food Swaps – Preston/Thornbury

The next food swap will be on Saturday July 28, from 11 to 12 pm.  It can be found at the corner of High St and Pender St, Thornbury.

Northcote

The next Northcote food swap will be on Saturday August 11, from 11 to 12 pm.  It can be found at 251 High St Northcote in the side garden of the church.

Food Swaps are an occasion to meet your community, talk about gardens and sustainability and swap excess produce from your garden, or something you made in your kitchen. You bring some and get to take some away as with all good swaps.

Ideas of what to bring:

  • seeds from your garden
  • seedlings
  • fruit
  • vegetables
  • herbs
  • preserves
  • cordials
  • sour dough starter

The list goes on…
